I’ve been searching ebay for some old wooden grips, but they get pretty expensive. I’ve decided to go the cheap way and paint the grips that the gun came with.

We arrived in Tucson around 5pm on the 13th, and got to see a free showing of Buster Keaton’s The General on 35mm, which was a lot of fun and unexpected! So we kicked off our trip with a bang.

We spent the majority of the trip packing orders with Fangamer, and more importantly, revising the EB Saga 5 script. Robbie Jon and myself rewrote the outline and it has come together very well. For the last few days I’ve been home, I have been trying to figure out if each scene is individually worth having in the film, or if it can be cut. We officially begin shooting in August.

We’re working on concept art for Mr. Saturn as well as Belch. Both of which have proven to be very difficult to recreate. However, very fun to do. Once the concepts are more palatable, I’ll post some on here. The Mr. Saturn hut is actually what has got a lot of us scratching our heads; not many of us have ever had to build a full set before, but I believe our current plan will work effectively.

We finally jumped on the twitter bandwagon, so please follow us on there, as well as tweet us to your friends. I promise to tweet frequently (at least once a week) even after EB5 is complete.

Reid and I got to talk about some EB Saga stuff, such as how we could go about distributing EB5 most effectively. Our current plan is to put the episode as a raw quicktime file on a 4gig flashdrive. The flashdrive would be EarthBound themed in some way, and would be included in a package along with an EarthBound Tshirt, and an UbseyMovies shirt. Not sure what the price is going to be yet, though.

I had a great phone conversation with the actor who’s going to play Jeff. He seems to have a good growing grasp of the character as the script begins going through revisions.

Speaking of revisions, I spent a good amount of the car ride tuning up weak elements of the script, and it’s only getting better. Eventually my creative juice ran dry though as we hit stand still traffic on Highway 5. I guess a cop was swerving back and forth through all the lanes, go figure. We wound up being stuck for close to an hour and a half, only 30 miles outside of our destination.

The guy in Louisiana who I sent a $50 money order to got back to me.

At this point I assume he’s the real deal, so I’m expecting the package upon my return home.

Writing

Today I am hoping to have what I believe to be an almost final draft of the EB5 script. I think it’s a relatively funny and odd movie, but a lot of other people seem to think it is dark. At any rate, no one is complaining, because I guess it’s entertaining!

Tucson

On the 12th of this month, I’m making a drive with Jon and Mimi (production designers) and Robbie (Ness, producer, and all around big bro) to Tucson, AZ. It is there we will be meeting up with Reid Young of Fangamer, and begin hashing out details on special effects, production costs, and the possibility of not doing a DVD. (Not sure yet! We may just offer an HD file online)

Equipment

We got the Canon Rebel T2i yesterday, which I think is a spectacular camera! This is what we’ll be shooting EB5 on, so I’m attempting to get a good feel with it.

Over the last few days I’ve been trying to find a specific (non-firing) gun, the colt 38. Detective Special. Unfortunately, no one makes replicas of this specific gun. However, I found one person on a gun collectors/dealing website who is selling a custom weighted replica for only $35 + $15 shipping. This all sounded good to me, but then the emails started.

I was going to be late to the convention, because I just happened to have school the day it starts. However, I managed to schedule my flight just hours after my biology final, so I was on my way as fast as possible.

I had no idea what to expect in terms of how I’d be interacting with people, because I don’t believe myself to be a representative of Fangamer. So I felt out of place for the most part during the beginning of the trip. So much happened, I’ll try to give you a general idea of my favorite events that transpired:

I got to finally meet a lot of people who I’ve only spoken with online. This includes (though certainly not limited to) DJKaton & Ozwalled of Radio PSI fame!

I was standing at the Fangamer booth, which at this moment was fairly unattended by the employees, and a young man came up to me. Since I have little to no knowledge about Fangamer products, I began to scrambling trying to look busy, attempting to avoid him inquiring about knowledge I don’t possess. However, he didn’t ask about Fangamer or any products, and instead asked if I was Jeff Benson. This was weird, because he said it in such a way as if he had known me for years. He introduced himself and told me that he actually found Fangamer/Starmen.net as a result of finding EarthBound Saga on Youtube. Though this was just a small meeting between me and this other man, It certainly felt empowering. The planets had aligned in such a way, by him watching something I created, he was able to find Fangamer, and eventually compelled him to attend PAX East where I got to meet him. What a weird series of events!

I felt so honored to be in the presence of someone who appreciated such a special situation as much as I did. I had to get a picture with him. His name is Will.

Fangamer did a podcast while I was there, in which my voice was audible.

All and all, it was a fun experience and I hope I get to go back again next year. Thank you Reid and Fangamer friends! I wish I could go to these things all the time.

The story has gone though many revisions, as I’m sure it will continue to. But as it stands right now, it’s a real movie with a real story. It stands on very different ground than the previous chapters.

I’m running low on zinc because I’ve been cumming too much to what my imagination has built up to be the greatest Earthbound Saga installment of all time! The demon hooker outside the hotel is going to suck my hairy chode in the sky runner, baby!
