Ness’s hat has been getting a lot of guff lately. I’ve been getting messages from people insisting that the hat be changed to something more complimentary. Take a look at these:
Please fix Ness’ hat. Having it smashed to pieces like it is now is starting to get annoying.
Just an FYI, Ness wears his cap sideways…PUT THE CAP ON RIGHT BECAUSE IT’S STARTING TO ANNOY ME WHEN YOU DON’T!!!!!!!!!!!!…
Come’on, this thing is the staple of the series.
All I can say in response to these complaints is that there are a lot of inaccuracies comparing EB Saga to the game; the hat is most likely going to stay the same, because it’s one of the few reminders of how far the saga has come.
Over the course of making four episodes, we’ve had a lot of trouble keeping the hat together; it really is as flimsy as it looks. As of now, the hat is held together with red and blue construction tape, masking tape, packaging tape, duct tape, and electrical tape. All tapes were applied in that order, because we were trying to keep the color as accurate as possible . We unfortunately progressively ran out of tape, and had to keep going for less similar colors, ultimately bringing us to black electrical tape. The hat also has a few paperclips holding some larger pieces together, but the tape is the main part.
When I was talking to my friend Jeremy Inman (a fellow aspiring filmmaker) about producing EB5, one of his first questions was if we were going to change the hat. I said we were; he laughed and told me:
What makes the newer chapters so funny to me is that everything is presented so seriously, yet Ness still wears the same stupid construction paper hat.
I hope other people will share this joke with us, because I think it’s really funny.
The hat falling apart in Chapter 4 used to bother me, but it really is hilarious how it gets more battered and ridiculous looking as time goes on.
I love how ruined the hat is, I was actually just wondering yesterday if you were going to change the hat since the hats in the fangamer store finally released
It was funny the first time around, but the gag is getting sort of tired. I call for a new hat.
I say leave the hat until it spontaneously explodes.

I just wanted to tell you that I really enjoy all your films. You are doing the fans of EarthBound a gigantic favor by making this series, and to hear that it’s being given more attention to detail is great news. I’m excited for the DVD and future installments.
In regards to Ness’ hat, keep it the way it is as long as you can. It was given to him as a baby and is probably the only thing he has as a reminder of his father. It makes sense that he’d try his best to keep it in tact with whatever he could get his hands on. If it eventually was covered in black electrical tape, it’d be both hilarious and touching in a way, much like EarthBound itself.

Glad to hear you’re keeping the hat. Like you say, it shows how far you’ve come and provides consistency. Abandon the hat and you abandon the full context of the journey, completely divorcing the new episodes from the old.
I was thinking you could have a nudge to the nay sayers, by at one point ness going into a store and looking at a “better” hat (mostlikly the one sold at fangamer) but nudgeing it off and keeping his old one

The terribly flimsy hat is a staple of the EBSaga series. There’s no need to change it, in fact I find it absolutely hilarious each time it falls apart and the more it gets wrecked the more awkward hilarity arises from it.
Don’t get rid of something so amazing just because there are a few people out there who don’t find humorous things humorous.
I say you leave the hat unless it really does die/spontaneously combusts. It represents not only how far you guys have gotten in ur Saga, but I bet Ness’ hat is also battered and torn up too considering all the crap he had to go through.
You know to get a ne hat just buy a hatness from fangamer…
What Jacob said is absolutely true. The hat is one of my favorite things about your series and it fits in so well with everything else that’s going on. The complainers don’t seem to “get” the feeling this is trying to capture and probably don’t even “get” the actual game. Keep doing what you do. Please. Everyone I’ve showed this to thinks it’s incredible.
I think the crummy ness hat is what makes the Eb Saga so funny and random at the same time, so those complainers need to get a grip and accept the awesomness lol
